My husband and I bought our first home last December. We want to make changes to the layout because what we have is very backward. We would like a whole new layout and because we will be doing most the work ourselves (hiring when we can afford) we must know exactly what we should do and an exact order in which we should do it.

I can provide a drawing of the layout, pictures, and room dimensions, along with anything else you would request. Our home is a simple
ranch style house, 1950 sq.ft. We really would like to work with what we have, not actually adding any additions however, extending rooms out in some areas to give the outside definition and a non-ranch look.

We can probably add up to 700 sq. ft. if needed. We will be working on our home for an extended period of time so we will remain in the house while the work is being done. Also, the thought of tearing out walls appeals to us, as we do want a more open feel. Oh Yes, and the ceiling could be lifted as well (8 feet just doesn't get it). I wasn't sure if we would require a draftsman or an architect. We would like to get started with our project next month if possible.
